Mill House Riding Centre is a riding school and livery yard set in acres of beautiful north east countryside not far from Durham and Hartlepool.
We have a fantastic range of facilities with lots of well schooled horses and ponies We have RDA and BHS trained and qualified staff, catering for all abilities in a friendly, safe environment.
We have also been awarded the Accessibility Mark from the RDA and our staff have received full training to now be able to offer riding lessons for disabled riders.
The riding centre’s horses and ponies have been carefully chosen to be safe, sensible and fun and include many different breeds ranging from Shetlands to TB's. We've horses and ponies that are suitable for lessons with riders of all abilities.
Group riding lessons, private tuition and beginners' riding lessons are available, with clients benefiting from our brilliant facilities including the use of 2 indoor arenas one of which is Olympic size, a floodlit outdoor arena, plus beautiful, off-road hacking.
We have a picnic area, vending machines and on-site coach parking.
Children who learn to horse ride here have plenty of opportunities to get involved and learn more about ponies and our horses. “Pony Week” sessions are a popular school-holiday activity, and regular riders can become stable helpers.
Schools and youth groups can arrange riding lessons as an activity for children with us and we also run a pony club!

At our riding centre we offer a wide range of lessons for riders from the age of 2yrs and up. All our riding lessons take advantage of our brilliant facilities and cater to all abilities. Please visit our lessons page for a full list of prices and lessons available.
Our Tiny Tots Sessions are the perfect starter lessons for 2-6 year old's to ease your children into pony riding. Each session is 30mins long.
Our Group lessons run through the week and the weekends. These lessons are designed to the specific ability of the riders.
Our beginner riding lessons are designed for complete beginners. We offer separate riding lessons for both children and adults with the ponies being led until the rider is completely comfortable.
These private riding lessons are designed for beginners and advanced riders alike. If you are interested in jumping and lunge lessons please get in contact as these can be arranged.
We have recently been awarded the accessibility mark from the RDA with our staff fully trained to provide riding lessons for disabled riders. You can find us on the RDA website’s group listings. Have you dreamed of owning your own pony and not had the chance? Come to Mill House Riding Centre near Durham and meet our friendly ponies. We’ll match you up with your perfect partner who you will look after and really get to know. This includes 3 Pony Rides, preparing your pony before rides and caring for your pony after your rides.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us out on the yard. This is a brilliant opportunity to help us out and look after the ponies while gaining some experience for when you have your own. If you are interested in volunteering please give us a call.

Why not hold your child's birthday parties at Mill House Riding Centre? All our pony parties cater from 6-10 children and include pony rides, food and hats to use free of charge.
